I've not used soft clipping before, and I'm examining some extreme uses of limiters for mastering purposes, and seeing for myself the differences on different types of material of clipping as the first stage. I'm already doing the bounce and look thing and it's HUGELY inconvenient if you have to do it over and over and over and over. I've spent more time looking at rms meters than I have spent sleeping over the past couple months. ORIs it scrolling or does it freeze so I can examine it very closely? I'm talking about being zoomed in on fractions of a second. This is extremely easy with the free s(M)exoscope plugin. Unfortunately, the Time and Amp controls don't work on the frozen waveform, so you will have to tune those prior to doing your freeze. That will freeze your sound in time, giving you access to the waveform without writing it to disk.

Then click the "freeze" button on each instance of s(M)exoscope. If it isn't, then play a note or press play to begin processing audio. Now you can arrange your plugins so that you can see everything at once.
